Here is page 14 of a 15-page article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "Soliloquy Of Altoona." It was published originally in the April 1978 issue of "Rails Northeast" magazine, page 29. Photo Caption: "Eastbound and westbound pass each other. The I1sa heads east with hot merchandise and LCL traffic, while a 3-unit F3 departs for Pitcairn. Taken just east of the 4th St. Bridge by F.S. Gamber in 1956." In the forefront is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9689, is an EH-15 built in February of 1949, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in August of 1967 after just 18 years of revenue service. |
