CR 3196
TV-302 is at Cass St. in Hornell running "wrong main" on track #1. Track #2 was so slow between Hunt and Hornell at this time that most Eastbounds were given train orders to run track #1.

Tom Beckett General Track 1 from Cass St to River Jct was the "Conrail main", track 2 was the "D&H main". If the Hornell dispatcher had ANY Conrail trains close, the D&H would get track 2, and a 25 mile ride at 10 MPH. It made for a LONG day for those guys!! I note second unit is CR 3403, that's the last CR GP40-2. Really enjoying this album-especially the shots of trains out on the Mahoning Division. I lived in NYC then, and while the Tier itself was not hard to get, anything west of Hornell was by sheer luck, so it's really great to see all those early CR days shots in Almond and Alfred, etc. What a great time to be there to see the action!! 12/10/2012 8:52:38 AM
