| Kansas City Southern F-unit 91 was receiving some attention in the engine house at West Yard, just outside of New Orleans. The locomotive was built as L&A F7A 74D in February 1951; but after being wrecked at Sulphur Springs, Texas on 12 October 1955, EMD rebuilt it into an F9Am in March 1956. It was assigned unit number 91 in January 1957 (while retaining engine number 74D), renumbered 4061 in April 1978, sold to Mountain Diesel Transportation in 1988, and -- after changing ownership several times -- is still in existence in 2010. |
