Ryan Kertis General I remember this car well, it was used as an Icr Cream Shop for awhile, now at IRM 3/11/2010 12:01:47 AM
Joe Usselman General I remember it too, they removed it around 2001, it sat in Griffith on the spur for a little while after that. 3/12/2010 5:29:19 PM
Ted Brumberg General The BIRMINGHAM was AMTK #8081, not #8001. AMTK #8001 was ex-SCL #5901, nee-#6101, built by Budd in 1939 as a 48 seat diner. The BIRMINGHAM was built by Pullman-Standard in 1950 as a 36 seat diner, 1 of 13 diners built in that Lot, 10 of which, including the BIRMINGHAM, were owned by ACL. The BIRMINGHAM was later SCL #5951 before going to Amtrak in 1971 as the #8081. For more info on the 1950 ACL diners, including the BIRMINGHAM, see this thread on RYPN: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35295 11/2/2014 11:32:24 PM
Ted Brumberg General Forgot to note that the actual AMTK #8001, ex-SCL #5901, was built by Budd for the SAL as #6101. 11/2/2014 11:34:28 PM
