Amtrak SDP40F 529
SDP40F's weren't regularly used on the PANAMA LIMITED until June 1974, when new units 612-619 were assigned to the train; but at least three units from the original order (500-539) showed up when they were new in 1973. The first was the 514, which came in on 9 July 1973; followed by the 528 on 17 September and the 529 the next day. Here is the 529, along with E8A 205, on 19 Spetember; ready for this afternoon's northbound train to Chicago. Even though the locomotive is less than two months old, almost all of the black paint has peeled off of the pilot and fuel tank. This was a common occurance on units 500-539.
