Amtrak still stranded  Contributor's Pick!
The Amtrak Capitol Limited which runs from Chicago to Washington, was sidelined in Connellsville from February 5th through February 12th due to it striking three downed trees that had fell across the tracks during the winter storms. One tree was stuck under the front locomotive and another one under a coach. The train crew was able to get the trees out, but had to go off duty afterward due to the hours of service law. A crew to replace them was unable to reach the train due to the closing of some roads. Passengers were taken by bus to Pittsburgh after being stranded 22 hours. From there they boarded a waiting Amtrak in Pittsburgh to resume their trip to Chicago. Seen in downtown Connellsville, Pa from the Crawford Avenue Bridge. Also there has been a 130 car coal train wreck in the mountain area of Meyersdale Pa which is clogging all rail traffic between Connellsville and Cumberland on the Keystone Subdivision. The deep snow is hampering cleanup efforts.
