UP 3397
UP 3397, shown here leading a westbound export coal train at Helendale on the Santa Fe, was one of nine UP SD40-2s equipped in 1978 to lead CP-UP pool trains through Eastport, ID. This included the application of Canadian-style ditchlights, which were required for locomotives operating in Canada a full two decades before they were mandated in the US. Date of photo approximate.
