BN (AM) C424 4240
ex-Burlington Northern Railroad (AM) C424 4240 at Springdale, Arkansas on December 8, 1992, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Although it is stencilled AM 4240, it has obvious BN heritage. Built in June 1964 as SP&S 300 (c/n 3381-01) it became BN 4240 and was retired from the BN in August 1980. The door is stencilled: NOT FOR OCCUPANCY NON COMPLYING LOCOMOTIVE. The nose is tagged: OUR CLUB OUR TURF. Alco's internal designation for the C424 was DL640A. Alco's C424 production was 190 units (including MLW's production), of which only 53 were for USA customers, the rest were for Canada and Mexico.
