Mark Fryer General Off to the workshops for inspection, repair or scrapping. Certainly all the bearings will get turfed judging from what I have read on Class 1 sites about car derailments, and it also comes down to how long the wheels were off the rails. 7/25/2009 8:27:02 PM
Mark Fryer General MMMM jointed rail, I wonder if we are looking at the results of an overloaded joint bar failure caused by todays heavier railcar loadings and metal fatigue stress fractures. 7/25/2009 8:30:04 PM
M S General That is probably the reason for the derailment. As you can see the track where the derailment occured seems to be in worse condition than the main line. Very poor track considering it belongs to a class 1 railroad. This part of KCS line does not see as much traffic as the line segment between Robstown and Laredo. All crossborder traffic bypasses this segment of KCS line. I think it will be just a matter of time before KCS upgrades this part of the line to welded rail like the rest of the former Tex-Mex line. 7/25/2009 10:00:08 PM
A. Micah Harris General The line from Robstown to CC is jointed but in OK conditions. The siding here on the otherhand was just horrible. Not even remotely level and very wavy. I wouldn't be supprised if the cars were stationary when they flipped... it was that bad. One of the spots KCS hadn't gotten to yet. The line to the west of here is great. 7/30/2009 10:22:52 PM
