Looking south down the Shenandoah Valley R.R. line which leads to Staunton, VA.   Contributor's Pick!
In the late 1800's this was the Valley R.R. line. Financially struggling they had support from the B&O which turned it over to the Chesapeake and Western in the early 1940's. The line at that time ran to Lexington, VA. The CHW closed the line from Staunton to Lexington in the early 1940's and the track was torn up and used for the war effort.
