Chuck Zeiler General Built as EMD Demonstrator 4351 December 1965 (c/n 31693) on order #5696, it was powered by a 20 cylinder 645E3 prime mover producing 3600 horsepower. Eventually it was sold to the IC, becoming #7000, the only SD-45 on IC's roster. It was scrapped June 1987. Note the extra large central air intake grill, added sometime after it was built. 12/16/2008 7:37:35 PM
Chris S General Outstanding image of a rare unit, with the AFT right beside! Many thanks for sharing this image 7/21/2010 8:58:21 PM
Steve k General Date has to be July 1975 not Sept. Not sure if AFT passed through Kankakee twice, first going from South Bend to Springfield, IL, but I know they went through Kankakee going from Springfield to Chicago as I was there and was able to hitch a ride with them to Homewood. Either way, the South Bend, Peoria, Springfield displays were in July with Chicago July 28 through Aug. 3 1975. 12/20/2010 1:49:09 AM
Roberto Alaniz General Very nice catch. 11/2/2013 3:02:18 PM
