The picture is looking south and slightly west. Across the bottom of the picture is the Roosevelt Rd. Viaduct. South Canal Street is along the right side. The BN (ex-CB&Q) coach yard and engine facility is cental and central right. The yard is full of commuter trains on a mid-week afternoon. Upper left is the 2-track bridge (ex-PRR) over the South Branch of the Chicago River and lower left in the Amtrak (ex-PRR) Coach Yard. Across the middle are the St. Charles Airline bridges. The BN main comes in from the right an curves north (under the St. Charles Airline) on the northwest leg of the wye. The southwest leg is visable and the north/south tracks form the other leg of the wye. |
