CB&Q U25C 561
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad U25C 561 at Lincoln, Nebraska on an unknown day in October 1965, Kodachrome by unknown photographer, Chuck Zeiler collection. The handwriting on the slide looks like it is from Dick Rumbolz. This locomotive was built October 1965 (c/n 35608), which happens to be the date on the slide. It was the last locomotive of a 12 unit order for U25C's, and it likely caused concern at EMD, because this order and a previous order for six U25B's represented the first break in the CB&Q's locomotive orders from EMD since 1944, when the Q received a nine S2's from Alco and 30 VO-1000's from Baldwin, not by choice, but by order of the War Production Board. This locomotive became BN 5641 and was retired August 1980. Also of interest to CB&Q fans is the Wagon Wheel radio antenna attached t the building behind the trailing unit. This antenna was often applied to the F-units and switchers, but is seldom seen on a building.
