| Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E8 9972 westbound at Naperville, Illinois on April 19, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Note the brake shoe glow and water sloshing out of the underbelly tank. This locomotive was built in June 1953 on EMD Order 2059 (c/n 18314). It became BN 9972 on March 2, 1970. It was sold to the West Suburban Mass Transit District on April 1, 1977, send to Boise, Idaho during May 1978 for rebuilding to E9Am specs by Morrison Knudsen. It returned as 9906 and was leased to the BN for operation and maintenance until retired in July 1992. It went to MARC as their 66 until retired again. It appears to have gone to the Museum of Transportation in Saint Louis, and then was sold to the SLRG as number 520. I lost track of it after that. |
