New Haven DL-701s and GP-9
Westbound freight stopped for signals at SS 154 (Woodlawn Tower) at entrance to Northup Ave. Hump Yard. The old route through Pawtucket curves to the right. The new route built 1914-16 required considerable excavation. Note the 0.4 % grade which drops the track 8 feet at Dexter St. in the distant background. The rails at Boston Switch are 7 feet lower than at the Conant St bridge seen above the front of the train. (date is approximate)
