Although this photo is not taken in the southeast, It doas have strong roots to the southeast being that it was built as a Southern Railway SD24 and roamed through out the Carolinas and such. After being retired by SOU, A batch of the SD24s went to Presion National where they were put in lease service with their high hoods and such still in tact. After that the units were purchased by the power short Chicago & North Western who had the turbo chargers removed and downrated to 1800 HP, But they retained their high short hoods during their time on the C&NW. After UP retired the units, They joined the WSOR's small fleet of former IC SD20s. WSOR is where the units got their chopped noses.

Ron Moraca General Wonderful photo, David!!!! Like all EMD locomotives, the SD18 has lasted for a long time. There are still quite a few across the country that are still operational. 5/14/2009 3:45:54 PM
