Sid Trivasse General This picture appears to have been taken sometime around 1966/67 at Bournemouth Central station (as it was known in those days - today it's just "Bournemouth"!). The loco, which was finally withdrawn from service on 4th April 1967, is standing at the London end of the Up Loop platform, no doubt awaiting departure on an Up special, as the loco headcode indicates. 8/1/2008 12:35:55 PM
Bryan Oliver General Thanks for the info! 8/1/2008 6:35:02 PM
Sid Trivasse General Having "mis-spent" much of my youth at this station and travelling the Bournemouth line, my guess for the date of this photo would be mid-sixties, rather than 1960 as indicated. Firstly, it cannot be as early as 1960 because this rebuilt Bulleid West Country Pacific was not rebuilt until March 1961. Also the dress of the individuals on the platform would suggest mid-1960's. Also, the fact that this loco is still sporting its nameplates suggests that it is probably not as late as 1967, since many Bulleid Pacifics had their nameplates removed for safekeeping during the final months of steam on the London-Bournemouth route (The end of steam on this line came on 9th July 1967) Furthermore, the fact that this loco seems to be quite well-turned-out suggests a date not too close to its end in 1967. If I was a betting man, I would put my money on sometime in 1966! 8/2/2008 5:10:07 AM

Richard Dixon General The date is 12th June 1965 and 34097 is in the bay platform (not 'loop') waiting to take over the Warwickshire Railway Society's 'Somerset&Dorset Joint and Eastleigh' railtour from class 9F 2-10-0 92238 which brought the special from Bath. 9/26/2015 1:38:16 PM
