EMC constructed this unit in 1937 as a model NC for the Philadelphia Bethlehem & New England Railroad. Originally numbered PBNE 209, it was later rebuilt as an SW-900 and renumbered to its present road number, the first of two locomotive on the PBNE roster to be numbered as such.
