EL RENO OK April 13 1980 -- Rock Island GP9 4424 (John W Barringer III) awaits its fate. EMD built the unit in November 1972 (s/n 17606) as a GP7 and Rock Island numbered it CRIP 1275. In December 1976 the Silvis shops rebuilt it as GP9R 4424. After the Rock Island shutdown it went to Chrome Crankshaft as 4424, to Cedar Rapids & Iowa City as CIC 97, to Chrome Locomotive as 97 and to Iowa Interstate as IAIS 400.
