Number 846 was built by Alco in May 1950 ( c/n 76749 ) as number 1856, classed 10-AS by the Milwaukee Road, renumbered in 1959 to 846, retired and traded to EMD during 1966 on new GP40 locomotives. It would appear that the cab had sustained some damage. |

One of the last Alco S2's to be ordered, MILW #1855 (serial #76749) served the Milwaukee Road for nearly 17 years before being traded into EMD in 1966 for a new GP40. The loco was renumbered sometime in its life to MILW #845. Specs - 10-AS class, 1000 hp, engine weight of 233,000 lb. Unknown photographer. |
