Title:  LIRR 340, DD-1, 1952
Description:  Prevosto. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Modena, Pennsylvania, in February of 1952. Shown here is Long Island Rail Road engine #340, a DD-1 (2-B+B-2) electric built in Juniata and rated at 3,160 horsepower. Both units were built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in July of 1910 and sold to the LIRR in June of 1927. PRR "3994" became #340-A, while PRR "3983" became #340-B. Note that the main driving rods have been removed in preparation for scrapping.

Description:  Here is a photo from page 742 in the "Centennial History Of The Pennsylvania Railroad Company: 1846-1946" that was composed by George H. Burgess & Miles C. Kennedy and published in 1949. Photo Caption: "Class DD-1 electric locomotive, used in tunnel operation of the New York Terminal area." Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #3983 and #3982. Both are DD-1's built in Juniata as NYT number "25" during July of 1910, rated at 1,580 horsepower each, and sold to the Long Island Rail Road in June of 1927.
