AMTK 8800
Title:  AMTK 8800
Description:  Amtrak 8800 was the 64-seat dining room section of twin-unit diner 8800-8801; while car 8801 (on the left) contained the kitchen, a room for the steward and 18 dormitory bunks. The two cars were deadheading from New Orleans to Plains, Georgia on the PEANUT SPECIAL, which was headed for the inauguration of Jimmy Carter; and the trucks and underbody had just been repainted. The cars were built by Budd in 1948 as Pennsylvania 4600-4601 and retained the same numbers on the Penn Central. There were six pairs of these, and four of them went to Amtrak in 1973 as the 8800-8807.
