CBQ Observation #572 - "Tom Sawyer"
Description:
The final car in the original Mark Twain Zephyr trainset was the round ended solarium parlor-lounge car. This observation/lounge car carries the name of the protagonist, "Tom Sawyer" - a fitting choice for the last car! The future plans have this car being upgraded to first class seating with traditional low back seats facing the center aisle.

CBQ Observation #572 - "Tom Sawyer"
Description:
Here is a rear view of the Tom Sawyer observation/lounge car as well as showing the long string of cars in the Mark Twain Zephyr trainset as they undergo renovation. The lead power unit, "Injun Joe" was just placed on top of its trucks on September 12, 2023. This was taken a couple of months before that momentous event. The trainset is rising from its ashes like a Phoenix and will ride the rails once again!

CB&Q Pullman 676
Description:
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Pullman 676, named Happy Hollow Club, at Aurora, Illinois on June 20, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built by Pullman in December 1929, it was named the Happy Hollow Club. It is listed in the book, "Burlington Passenger Car Roster", by William Glick, as a Pullman Type 1-2-2-2. Jerry LaBoda adds the following in his comment: "The car's not a 1-2-2-2, its a 4 single bedroom - 2 compartment - 1 drawing room - lounge, Pullman plan 3995". It was purchased from Pullman in 1949 and scrapped at Eola, Illinois December 31, 1965. There was a Happy Hollow Club established in Omaha, Nebraska in 1907. I do not know if the car is named for that club. UPDATE - here's some more information from the book, "CB&Q Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment", by Michael J. Spoor: "Built by Pullman in December 1929 to Plan 3995, Lot 6301, and subsequently rebuilt in February 1938, Happy Hollow Club and sister Lancaster Club featured 2 single bedrooms, 2 double bedrooms, 2 compartments, 1 drawing room, and 17 lounge seats. Purchased from Pullman in 1949, Lancaster Club was given #677 making it the highest numbered heavyweight sleeper on the roster. During the 1960's, it served as a substitute dormitory car on the Denver Zephyr."
