AAR Class: LO: A permanently enclosed car, other than a box car, regardless of exterior or interior shape, for handling bulk commodities, with or without insulation and provided with openings for loading through top or sides with weather-tight covers or doors. Car may be provided with one or more bottom openings for unloading, with tight fitting covers, doors, valves, or tight fitting slide or gate to prevent leakage of lading. Car may be provided with facilities for discharge of lading through openings in top or sides and may have one or more compartments. Description:  A CN local crosses the North Channel (Menasha Channel) of the Fox River via the former joint MILW/SOO bridge as it heads southwest at Menasha, WI on 8 Mar. '19. In the foreground, a flock of common goldeneyes has been kicked up by the passing train. This perspective would have only been obtainable with a boat, until the new Loop the Lake bridge opened to the public on 23 Jun. '18. The former Graphic Packaging International facility, originally Marathon Corp., 160 Washington St., can be seen on the south bank of the river in the background. The oldest part of the facility was built in Apr. '47 to manufacture cartons for food packaging. The land had previously been used for stave and lumber drying yards for Menasha Wooden Ware. The facility operated continuously until the end of '16, when Graphic Packaging International abandoned 228 hard working Americans by moving production out-of-state. The TC Transcontinental, Inc., facility, historically Marathon Corp. (originally Menasha Printing & Carton Co.), 271 River St., is partially visible on the north bank of the river at left. The piers supporting the former C&NW bridge (also in use by CN) are partially visible under this bridge.

The Neenah Paper mill (an active rail customer) and the Kimberly-Clark Corp. Globe Mill and Experimental Mill (X-Mill) are partially visible in the background at right. The Globe Mill is still commonly referred to as K-C's Badger-Globe Mill, although the Badger Mill was torn down ca. 1998.

Description:  A CN local crosses the former joint MILW/SOO bridge over the South Channel (Neenah Channel) of the Fox River at Neenah, WI on 8 Mar. '19. The corporate headquarters of Plexus, 1 Plexus Way, stands in the background. Plexus stands on the site of the former P. H. Glatfelter Co. paper mill, which stood here for 135 years, the oldest part of the original mill was constructed in 1874. Glatfelter purchased the mill from Bergstrom Paper Co. in 1979. Bergstrom had purchased the mill, originally Winnebago Paper, in 1904. Glatfelter moved the jobs to Ohio in June 2006, the mill stood idle for about two years until it was torn down, demolition was completed in May 2009. Some people like the style and appearance of this new building, I do not. To me, this and other recent additions to the local skyline are abominations. Looking east from the new Loop-the-Lake bridge (the ribbon cutting ceremony for this and the similar bridge in Menasha was held 23 Jun. '18). The pair of new bridges are part of Neenah and Menasha's Loop-the-Lake project to connect existing recreational trails in the Twin Cities.
