A CN local passes the Main St. overpass as it traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 15 May '20. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are partially visible beyond the lead locomotive. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. The east leg of the wye is in the foreground. |

Looking northeast over the south end of the CN, former SOO, yard at Neenah, WI, on 15 May '20. One reason for this photograph is the four yellow John Deere tracked vehicles staged at this end of the yard. They, and others, will soon be loaded onto flatcars for Michels Materials. It is an interesting process to watch, if you happen to be at the right place at the right time. The tracks at the far right are remnants of the former C&NW main line and yard. The tan 4- or 5-story facility at the center of the horizon is currently home to 5K Fibres, 1111 Henry St., based in Greenville, WI. They purchased the former Kimberly-Clark Corp. (K-C) Neenah Nonwovens Facility ca. Apr. '20. |
