Description:  FSF. Here is the second of two successive 35mm color slides of photos by David R. Sweetland that were taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in February of 1961. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8965 and #8963. Both are BS-24M transfer units built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in November of 1951, rated at 2,400 horsepower each, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. They have just passed under the 4th Street Footbridge and are entering Altoona's Eastbound Receiving Yard.

Description:  Local power for "super local" M789/790... The Baldwin to Chattahooche local that would run tri weekly in both directions. This was one of the last trains to traverse this line just before CSX would remove their locomotives and other equipment for the new owners. Hard to believe an end of an era was very near.

AN 721.
Title:  AN 721.
Description:  My absolute favorite road in Florida is the AN. The Apalachicola Northerns blue and white scheme was simple but yet sweet and is classy. Here, basking in the sun- AN 721 is the last AN GP15-T to be in the blue and white scheme as the railroad was purchased by GWI in 05 and operations would go downhill from there. The AN operates once a week now and only runs between Chattahoochee and Hosford, FL to GP. Rumor has it the 721 will be dipped once mechanical repairs at Panama Citys Bayline shops is complete.
