Description:  AW. Here is an image of a photo by Arlington J. Wolfe that was taken at the 24th Street Turntable in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1938. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #952, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata during January of 1918 and retired in June of 1957 after 39 years of faithful service. It's just returned from a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin where it uncoupled and returned here, to be turned around, for yet another run up "The Mountain." William E. Shown here in the Pennsylvania Railroad's Erecting & Machine Shop are two partially-completed Class K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" steam locomotives: #5380 and an unidentified companion suspended above it. #5380 was built during June of 1924 and retired in January of 1949 after 25 years of faithful service. Title:  UP Passenger Special
Description:  Almost every Friday during the 1984 LOUISIANA WORLD EXPOSITION the Union Pacific ran a special passenger train from Houston to a siding at the fair site in New Orleans for special guests. The train ran from the ex-MP AVONDALE YARD to the fair over the New Orleans Public Belt, and here was one on the NOPB at Saint Andrew Street, with Tchoupitoulas Street on the right and the wharves along the Mississippi River on the left. This train had GP40-2 906 (ex-Western Pacific 3551) with a working GYRALITE, MP GP40 612 (ex-Rock Island 352), staff car CABARTON, sleeper OMAHA, lounge car 6203, and office car 102. The track in the foreground belonged to the Illinois Central Gulf and the other tracks belonged to the NOPB.

NOPSI <I>CANAL STATION </I>
Title:  NOPSI CANAL STATION
Description:  A collection of New Orleans Public Service streetcars was parked at NOPSI’s CANAL STATION and BUS GARAGE in the 2800-block of Canal Street. By the time this photo was taken, these would have all been CANAL line cars, as this was the only car line which operated out of here. The cars which can be identified were the 912, 907, 922, 920 and 906, which had been built by the Perley A. Thomas Car Works in 1923 and 1924. The 912 was scrapped in June 1964, right after the CANAL car line was replaced with buses; but all of the other cars were still in service in 2020 on the ST. CHARLES line.

Description:  New Orleans Public Belt Railroad SW1000 105 was southbound with a train crossing the Florida Avenue Drainage Canal. The locomotive had been built in August 1971 and the NOPB sold it exactly 49 years later to Fast Track Consulting of North Woodstock, New Hampshire. It left New Orleans on the Norfolk Southern on 13 August 2020 lettered PLLX (Plymouth & Lincoln Railroad) 105. (approximate date of photo)

Description:  The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad tried out Alco Products CENTURY 415 demonstrator 415 for a week in June 1967. Here, the unit was switching at the railroad’s PAULINE STREET YARD along the Mississippi River. Alco sold the 415 to Hamersley Iron Proprietary Limited in Western Australia about a year later, in May 1968, and it has been preserved at the Pilbara Railways Historical Society.

Description:  Amtrak train No. 217 – the southbound NEW YORK-PHILADELPHIA EXPRESS – was pulling into the station at North Philadelphia behind E60CP 953. The locomotive had been built in November 1975, was renumbered 621 in April 1988 and retired in February 2003.
