GTW 4903
Title:  GTW 4903
Description:  A CN local traverses the east leg of the wye and passes the Main St. overpass as it shoves its train into the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 4 Apr. '20. The white building partially visible at left is, or was, Progressive Paper Storage, Inc. (formerly Kimberly-Clark Warehouse (K-C Warehouse)), 135 Millview Dr. It does not receive rail service, but it looks like there may have been a spur on the northwest side of the building in the past. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot can be seen to the right. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.

EIRR 3005 and EIRR 3001
Title:  EIRR 3005 and EIRR 3001
Description:  A pair of EIRR, former HCRC, covered hoppers were part of the consist of a CN through freight traversing the west leg of the wye as it prepared to set out and pick up cars at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 4 Apr. '20. The train is passing the remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.

GTW 4912
Title:  GTW 4912
Description:  A CN local momentarily fouls Millview Dr. so it can clear the turnout to transition from the north leg to the east leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 3 Jul. Sadly, there are no longer any mills to be seen along Millview Dr. The Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant) stood just out-of-frame to the right, until demolition was completed in the spring of '16. Opened in Jan. '98, it stood idle since 15 Jun. '13. I was standing where the P. H. Glatfelter Co. paper mill had stood for 135 years, the oldest part of the original mill was constructed in 1874. Glatfelter purchased the mill from Bergstrom Paper Co. in 1979. Bergstrom had purchased the mill, originally Winnebago Paper, in 1904. Glatfelter moved the jobs to Ohio in June 2006, the mill stood idle for about two years until it was torn down, demolition was completed in May 2009. A pair of unimaginative modern buildings, feebly posing as architecture, currently occupy the site of the old paper mill. Arrowhead Park lies beyond the fence to the right. In the background, a CN through freight rests on the west leg of the wye.

CN 3276 and CN 8838
Title:  CN 3276 and CN 8838
Description:  A CN combination autorack and container train parallels Union St. and passes the former Adams St. grade crossing as it heads south past a halted through freight at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 3 Jul. '20. Train had two locomotives,. The Main St. overpass is in the background to the left. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard still here.

CN 3035 and CN 3839
Title:  CN 3035 and CN 3839
Description:  A CN through freight parallels Harrison St. as it heads southwest at the south end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 3 Jul. '20. The W. Cecil St. overpass (Timothy Hamblin Bridge) can be seen in the background to the left. The overpass, erected to eliminate the grade crossing, opened to traffic on 20 Nov. '07. The gray silos in the background to the right belong to Amcor Flexibles Neenah (formerly Bemis until Jun. '19, formerly Curwood, Inc.), 1815 Marathon Ave., (an active rail customer). A remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding, runs parallel on the other side of the train.

IC 3110 and IC 9568
Title:  IC 3110 and IC 9568
Description:  A CN local, with at least 41 cars, approaches Towmen Rd. as it heads northeast at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co., WI, (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016) on 3 Jul. '20. Local was headed for Appleton, Little Chute, and Kaukauna and had two locomotives, IC 3110 and IC 9568 (with some unique, expedient hand-stenciling). The local is transitioning from the former SOO rails to the former C&NW rails. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. On both sides of the train you can see some brand new signals waiting to take over for the cool, old signals.
