It was published originally in the July 1951 issue of "Popular Science" magazine, page 55. Photo Caption: "Barreling past stop signal and frantically-waving flagman, 'Spirit of St. Louis' crashed at 48 m.p.h. into a troop train stalled by broken air hose, killing 33 soldiers. Investigations found only automatic speed control could have averted wrecks due to human failure." The engines pulling the "Spirit of St. Louis" were Baldwin passenger "Sharks."
