Title:  Rolling west
Description:  Train 557 rolls past QD on its way out of Binghamton. Gloomy day, but an Alco leading always brightens the day. The Lackawanna station is seen above the trailing unit, with the Erie freight house at far left, visible under the bridge. The Erie station stood immediately behind the power, and was razed in 1976 soon after the Conrail start up.

Description:  Train 253 works north over Harpursville bridge on a typically dark Binghamton day. The power set has two units of note. The second unit is an ex CN unit, acquired in a swap for power from a Canadian water district that had its own power. The trailing unit is an ex Southern SD 40-2 that CP acquired, then turned into a B unit by removing the controls and blanking the cab.

Description:  This unit got repainted about four times over the 15 years I saw it on the Tier. Here it is in the "golden rodent" scheme, leading 75 cars of train 413 north at Nowlan Rd. Note the pilot is cut out on the edges so it can run on Metro North, which CP was doing at the time, with trains 416/417 from Saratoga to Fresh Pond.

Description:  252 rolls south over the Harpursville bridge behind a trio of 40's. The two trailing units are notable. The middle unit is an ex SOU unit that was converted to a B unit by CP; they changed it by removing the seats and control stand, and boarding up the windows-yes, boarding up: they used plywood. The trailing unit is ex Greater Winnipeg Water District, and a trade from CN-note the road number that falls into CN's SD40 series.
