Title:  NKP 170 4-6-4 and C&IM 551 2-8-2
Description:  New York Central 170 4-6-4 and Chicago & Illinois Midland 2-8-2 at the National Museum of Transportation at St. Louis, MO. The photo isnt very good with the sun behind a cloud, but took it to show how the museum grounds were at more than one level which is pretty unusual for railroad museums.

Title:  NKP 4-6-4 #171, Nickel Plate (New York, Chicago & St. Louis RR)
Description:  Here's another example of the Alco-Brooks Hudson, class L-1a, built in March of 1927. The unknown photographer notes on the back "NKP 4-6-4 #171 is a wonderful machine to see running, but in this condition she still has a formidable façade. She has been idle since June, 1956 but doesn't look it. She is to be cut up, however. Note missing bell." She was sold for scrap in February of 1957 to Luntz Iron & Steel Co who had not yet begun with the torch yet.

Title:  NKP 4-6-4 #171, Nickel Plate (New York, Chicago & St. Louis RR)
Description:  Here's another view of #171 built by Alco-Brooks in March of 1927. The unknown photographer wrote on the back of the photo "NKP 4-6-4 #171. Idle for over 1 year, (June, 1956 was the last active month), but she is servicable. Still has "live" grease on her crosshead guides, coal in her tender. She is missing a bell, however." Note that there was a hole in the photograph on the master cylinders.

Title:  NKP 171
Description:  Nickel Plate #171, a 4-6-4 L1-A, was built by Brooks in March of 1927. Thirty years later, the end is very near for this locomotive, as it was sold to Luntz Iron and Steel Company as scrap. Its last month of revenue service was June of 1956. Over a year later, here it sits on Sunday August 18, 1957 by the roundhouse in Bellevue, Ohio. Photo by James Pope.

NKP 4-6-4 #173, Nickel Plate (New York, Chicago & St. Louis RR)
Title:  NKP 4-6-4 #173, Nickel Plate (New York, Chicago & St. Louis RR)
Description:  Doing what is was meant to do - pulling a string of passenger cars down the track- this 1927 Alco-Brooks Hudson looks great. Unfortunately, no date or location was listed for this photo but from the flat land it definitely looks like a Midwest farm area. She faired better than her sisters - she was sold to Louisiana Eastern on 3/31/61 thus surviving longer than most of the others. Only #170 donated to the National RR Museum in St Louis lasted longer.

NKP 4-6-4 #173 - Nickel Plate Road
Title:  NKP 4-6-4 #173 - Nickel Plate Road
Description:  Smoke deflectors added in May of 1946 and the white sidewalls gave this beautiful Alco-Brooks built 4-6-4 Hudson a European locomotive look. Shame the profile was cut off. The loco was built in March of 1927 and served well through the years. Unfortunately this beautiful machine was sold for scrap on March 31, 1961. No date, location or photographer was listed on this older reprint.
