DLW 4-8-2 #2228 - Delaware, Lackawanna & Western |
Description: |
Built by Alco-Schenectady in 1927, this "Mountain type" locomotive exudes power even as it sits quietly in an unknown yard, possibly DLW Scranton yard. Specifics - class P-5, 63" drivers, two 25x32" cylinders, one 25x28" cylinders, 200 psi boiler pressure, engine weight of 397,500 lb, tractive effort of 77,579 lb. According to steamlocomotive.com website, "Because these freight locomotives put less demand for maintenance on that hard-to-get-at center cylinder, the Lackawanna left the arrangement intact throughout the class's lifetime. Retirement came in 1946-1950." Photo by J.P.G. |
