ATSF 2250 on circus train (re-post)
Title:  ATSF 2250 on circus train (re-post)
Description:  GAINESVILLE TX July 25 1979 -- Santa Fe GP9u 2250 and GP30u 3276 power the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus train on its journey from Oklahoma City to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. EMD built the 2250 as ATSF 702 (s/n 21572) in May 1956 and delivered it in zebra stripe paint. In late 1969-early 1970 it was renumbered to ATSF 2902. After mid-June 1972 it was repainted to blue-yellow warbonnet. On April 25 1978 the Cleburne TX shops rebuilt it as a GP9u and renumbered it to ATSF 2250. After a stint in SPSF paint it regained blue-yellow warbonnet before Jan 1 1991 after the proposed SP-ATSF merger was rejected. On Sept 22 1995 it was transferred to BNSF and on June 4 1998 was rebuilt and renumbered to BNSF 1639 but still wore its warbonnet paint. On March 23 2010 Mark Herren shot the unit in Spalding ID on the Bountiful Grain and Craig Mountain Railroad. It was painted BG&CM orange and black.
