PRR 9493, FF-16, 1952
Title:  PRR 9493, FF-16, 1952
Description:  Dziobko. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1952. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9493 and two more "FF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All are FF-16's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #9493 was built in October of 1950 and retired in April of 1965. Partially visible on the right is PRR engine #5826, a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in September of 1948, originally rated as a 3,000 horsepower BP-60 for passenger service, later rebuilt into a 2,500 horsepower BH-50 for freight/helper/pusher service, and retired in Septemberl of 1962. All of these locomotives await their next helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Also visible in the background are portions of the 7th Street Bridge and the PRR's Passenger Car Shops.

Title:  PRR 9493, FF-16, 1952
Description:  Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1952 ~ 68 years ago today! Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9493, an FF-16 built by Fairbanks-Morse in October of 1950, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. Along with several other diesel-electric units (not pictured), it's waiting for its next helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin where they'll uncouple and return to the 7th Street Bridge area in Altoona and prepare for yet another run up "The Mountain." ("Stoneborobranch"; #19 of 20)

Face off of Pennsy Power
Title:  Face off of Pennsy Power
Description:  An incoming Fairbanks Morse CFA16-4 #9493 faces a Baldwin RF-16 unit (center) and an EMD F7A unit (left). What an unusual moment for the three diesel suppliers to face off like this. And to think, there was no GE product around! No locaiton, date or photographer was listed for this unique photo but i would surmise it's somewhere around Altoona, PA.
