Big Boy 4010 |

Union Pacific 4010 rests in the yard at Laramie. The 1941-built unit was one of 20 such engines built in the 4884-1 series, numbered 4000-4019. These units differed slightly from the 4884-2 series of five engines (4020-4024) built in 1944 to fulfill wartime traffic demands. Both series of locomotives would meet their retirement in 1959, when UP would discontinue steam operations on the Wyoming Divison. 8 of the 25 would be preserved, although 4010 would not be so lucky.
