Delivered to Union Pacific as SD40 3000 in March 1966, working for UP until being retired on February 9, 1987. This diesel was sold to National Railway Equipment as NHL 3000 in November 1987 but in this photo the stencil has been changed fron NHL to NRL. This diesel would later be sold to Morrison-Knudsen as MKCX 9403 in 1994 then rebuilt for Southern Pacific as SD40M-2 8625 released on February 24, 1995. After the UP-SP merger this unit would be renumbered first to UP 4651 then to UP 2705 until being retired on February 23, 2010. In this photo NRL 3000 is idling in SP Miller Yard in South Dallas while on lease to Espee, this unit would become an SP unit, then return to the UP roster, then get retired by UP for the second time. |
