This one has just cut off its train from New York at South Amboy, and continues the time honored tradition of the engine change, pulling past the crossivers to head for the small yard. Note the crossing guard shanty and the old hand operated gates. These would soon pass into history. |

Built by GE originally as Amtrak #960, the electric unit replaced the popular and powerful but aging GG1's. It was then transferred to the New Jersey Transit. In 1998, the group of E60 units were themselves replaced by the new ALP-44 units. Richard Louderback captured this moment while it sat in the South Amboy yard before another commuter run. |
