Depicted here are "Views of Altoona Works, the principal shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad." Of special note is caption number three: "Locomotive on testing plant, Altoona, Pa." Shown here is engine #790, an I-1S (2-10-0) "Decapod" built in Juniata in December of 1916, rebuilt as an I-1SA in January of 1943, and retired in August of 1956 after 40 years of service.

Description:  Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken just to the East of the 4th Street Footbridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #790, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built in Juniata as an I-1S during December of 1916, rebuilt as an I-1SA in January of 1943, and retired in August of 1956 after 40 years of faithful service. Note the Brakeman riding on the pilot step.
