DTI 4-4-0 #16 - Detroit, Toledo & Ironton
Title:  DTI 4-4-0 #16 - Detroit, Toledo & Ironton
Description:  Interesting side story for this little 4-4-0 American-style steam locomotive - built for the Midland Pennsylvania 1914 (only one ordered), this Eight-wheeler was repossessed by Baldwin and sold to the DT & I. That railroad used #16 on its Toledo-Detroit Railroad subsidiary hence several sources list it as a Toledo-Detroit locomotive only. In 1928 the DT & I donated #16 to Henry Ford's Edison Institute in Dearborn, where it remained on display for decades. In 1980, the Ford Museum traded #16 to the Illinois Railway Museum where it resides today. Photo from the Harold K. Vollrath collection.

Toledo-Detroit R.R. #16
Title:  Toledo-Detroit R.R. #16
Description:  This locomotive was constructed in 1915 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works (4–4–0 builder's class 8-30C 698). It was ordered by the Midland Pennsylvania Railroad in July 1914 but once completed it was sold (through T.E. Herrick) to the Toledo-Detroit Railroad just before that road was merged into the DT&I in 1916. First perserved when it went to the Edison Institute in 1930. Number 16 was traded to the Illinois Railway Museum in 1983 for B&LE #154 (a 1909 Baldwin 2–8–0).
