BN GP20 2068 at Freight House Nine in Cicero, Illinois on May 19, 1982, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The most prominent locomotive is GP20 2068 (on the right) built in April 1961 as CB&Q GP20 932 (c/n 26603) on EMD Order 7597, became BN 2068 and was retired in December 1986. On the left is SD7 6025, also a former CB&Q locomotive, built as CB&Q SD7 302 (c/n 18322). Most of the locomotives seen here are former CB&Q power, a mix of SD7's, SD9's GP20's, SD24's and GP40's. A downturn in businees, and the recent (between 1977 and 1980) acquisition of 659 new locomotives (SD40-2's and C30-7's) put these locomotives in mothballs for a bit. Some would return to service. |
