SNC 8524 Side Profile
Title:  SNC 8524 Side Profile
Description:  The largest piece of motive power on the Saratoga & North Creek line, B39-8E was brought in at the start of operations by parent Iowa Pacific to handle freight service. As the freight operations have been slow to materialize the unit has found a role in passenger service on the railroad's daily trains between the Amtrak station at Saratoga and the historic North Creek depot.

ALCO 5
Title:  ALCO 5
Description:  A rather historic Alco switcher rests out of service at North Creek yard. Built in 1947, the American Locomotive Company kept the unit and used it for switching chores around the vast facilities at Schenectady, NY. The unit was later sold into private ownership and was restored to its original paint scheme. It then bounced around to several northeastern shortline operations, including the Adirondack Scenic, the Delaware Lackawanna, and even the famous Strasburg Railroad. It came to North Creek for operation on the former Upper Hudson River Railroad excursions, working with Alco RS36 5019. Sidelined after SNC took over in 2011, it was later acquired by the new operator of the line but, despite being able to operate, has mainly been a display in North Creek yard for the past few years.

SNC 56
Title:  SNC 56
Description:  The SNC's other BL-2, wearing a slightly different variation of the road's paint scheme. The unit, which has yet to be put into service on the former Adirondack Branch, was one of the last two BL-2s constructed for the Bangor & Aroostook in 1949. Originally BAR 556, and later renumbered 56, this unit would be one of two BL-2s lightened by ten tons in order to be operated over the Bunker Brook trestle on the Greenville Branch. Later sold into private ownership, it would be displayed in faded BAR blue at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, WI with sister unit 52 until it was acquired by Iowa Pacific.

UHRX 5019
Title:  UHRX 5019
Description:  Currently the only locomotive on home rails on this former D&H branch, this old Alco was built for the D&H in 1963 as part of an order of twelve units. Operating in freight service for its original owner, this was one of the last RS-36 units to see service for the D&H. Later acquired by its current owner, Southwind Rail Travel Limited, the historic locomotive operated at various shortlines, including the Lackawanna Valley, Delaware Lackawanna, and Northern Central. It even was leased to the MBTA of Boston in the late 1990s for a track rebuilding project. Last operated by the Upper Hudson River Railroad, the unit awaits a possible future restoration back to operating condition. It sure would be cool to see this thing plying the rails through the Adirondacks once again.

SNC 821
Title:  SNC 821
Description:  This old Alco switcher may have the appearance of those units that once operated this branch many years ago but in reality this locomotive arrived here fairly recently. Built in 1943 for the United States Army, the locomotive was later acquired by New York's MTA and assigned to work train and helper service on the Staten Island Railway. Replaced by new Brookville built diesels in 2010, the unit was purchased by the Upper Hudson River Railroad and powered their excursions for a portion of their final operating season. Transferred to SNC, it was restored to the yellow and black paint scheme of 1940s D&H Alco diesels that were once a common sight on freight trains in this yard. SNC 821 has been used in all sorts of operations on the SNC, including acting as a switcher down at the Saratoga Springs station.

Later purchased by Iowa Pacific and first operated on the San Luis & Rio Grande of Colorado, the locomotive would be painted D&H style and moved east for the startup of SNC operations in 2011. Title:  UHRX 5019
Description:  A former D&H Alco rests out of service on the northern end of the former D&H Adirondack branch. Privately owned, the locomotive last ran for the Upper Hudson River Railroad, the excursion outfit that operated here before the SNC took over in 2011. The Delaware & Hudson acquired this locomotive for freight operations in 1963. It was one of the last Alcos in service on the D&H in the 1980s and also has served on several Pennsylvania shortlines in recent history, including the Delaware-Lackawanna in Scranton and the Northern Central of New Freedom. It was also leased to the MBTA in Boston for a short time for a track repair project. Hopefully this locomotive can see active service again in the future.
