Here is page 29 of a 40-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "A Picture Study Of The K-4." First issued in October 1967, revised in September 1976. Section Caption: "Some Modifications." Main Photo Caption: "At the New York World's Fair in 1939, the 3768 was exhibited with the Baltimore & Ohio's William Mason Engine No. 25 and the 'Best Friend of Charleston.'" Prominent in both of these photos is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3768, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1920, streamlined in 1936, and retired in October of 1953 after 33 years of faithful service. |

The Port Washington Branch had a test facility at Shea Stadium, where there were a number of unused tracks that had been built for the 1964/65 Worlds Fair. Off line trains were somtimes seen, usually new equipment being tested, but occasionally NYCTA cars too, since the voltages were similar, and they shared an over running third rail. I recall seeing R42 cars going past my house in Little Neck. Here we see some Metro North cars waiting to go east on a test. |
