CSXT 985250, an ancient relic sitting in the yard at Spruce Pine, NC. CSXT 985250 is a 250 ton Industrial Brownhoist crane built in 1946 for the Atlantic Coast Line. This crane was 1 of 3 built for the ACL in 1945, was originally steam powered and converted to Diesel in 1969. Was originally ACL 65358, then SCL 765250, then SBD 765250, finally CSXT 985250. This is one of 5 large cranes used on the SCL up to the mid 1980's in Waycross, Florence, Hamlet, Atlanta and Richmond, this one was stationed in Waycross (note Waycross painted on the boom). To my knowledge this is the only one still on the CSXT roster. |
