Borrowed time
Title:  Borrowed time
Description:  When NS started back to running into Columbus it was at an important time. It was just before the retirement of C39's, the new Thoroughbred or unibrow scheme hadn't came into play, GP50's were still roaming the system with their high hoods intact and SD50's could still be found. The 6522 is living on borrowed time though. Sometime later in the year most NS SD50's would find their way to the deadlines. Most would go on to NREX.

Title:  and I headed straight into the shining sun
Description:  The 2880 is well into Run 7 or 8 to make the 10mph track speed into Artesia yard only to have to set and wait and wait some more. The sun was blazing this late Febuary evening, looking more like a late October evening.

Sign of the times for a shortline
Title:  Sign of the times for a shortline
Description:  The 7o2 switches a few carloads of brick from Columbus Brick, one the C&G's 2 remaining carriers in its name sake city. C&G in Columbus now is little more than a bridge line between carriers in the area, a shadow of its former self. The sign here just adds insult to injury. Other class 1's gobble of the other shippers in the area.

Let's go home
Title:  Let's go home
Description:  Amory/Magnolia is just south of Columbus heading north to Amory. The picture is slightly blurred aecause I wasn't sure how to use my new camera at the time. The road to the right is the old Pickensville Rd. The crossing was relocated about 50 yards further down from the original xing after tce road was realigned in 1999. The white building down the road you see is painted up light blue with dark blue trim now. Can you say CSX?

3 engines and last unit for the 656
Title:  3 engines and last unit for the 656
Description:  Job 852, the Amory - Columbus local, set out the 2764 for the 656 Job. I was hoping it would be the 2904, a pure BN unit with no paint outs or stupid stick on letter/numbers especially since this would be the last unit used on the 656 Job before it was abolished after the AGR take over of the line from Columbus southward.

That classic ATSF look.
Title:  That classic ATSF look.
Description:  One of the few paint schemes that holds up well under a cloudy sky. As a child I had seen this in books and painted on the train sets I would play with. There was just something about that scheme that felt like royalty. Now 15 or so years later this was my first time to meet the face in person. This scheme will dissapear over time. My 90 Cougar to the left already has. The 560 still soldiers on.
