Past the auqomatic
Title:  Past the auqomatic
Description:  The H train rolls south over the hump from Decatur, passing the ABS signal, now lit, as it comes toward me. This spot works in your favor if chasing a heavy train south,=as most southbounds are. This one was 106 cars, and even with three ES 44's, it dragged over this short grade south of Decatur. Chasing a northbound on this line can be a chalnenge, since they are usually well powered for the tonnage of empty coal or grain cars. Loaded southbounds are much less of a challenge, as they work grades out of Sulphur Sprimgs, into Decatur, and again into Siloam.

Catching rays
Title:  Catching rays
Description:  One of the great things about winter is the low sun angle, which really saturates the colors. The down side is, the sun never gets very high, and shots you can take in the summer are in shadow. Such is the case at Decatur, where I catch this southbound grain train getting some sun in between the shadows from the adjacent Simmons Foods buildings.

Description:  I caught a 110 car oil train at Decatur with these CP units working as the DPU, capping off a NAFTA consist. How so?? The leader was a KCSM gray GE, followed by a couple of the US assigned units, though one of those was former TFM. Everybody can play!!

We headed toward Decatur to see if we could catch the southbound there, and saw him just south of town. This is the view at Y City Road as he drags over the top of the grade there at MP 219.

Description:  Hydraulic fracturing has become the big new thing in oil exrtraction, and it uses a lot of sand. This is transported in two bay hoppers due to its density. This one is southbound in Decatur on a unit train, which is typically how then move on the KCS. The MQRX initials are for McQuarie Rail, Inc, but now are owned by Wells Fargo.
