The DPU on the empty northbound passes between the signals at Mc Elhany as the train pulls away toward Neosho and the BNSF, ex Frisco crossing. I really should have quit on this guy at Noel, and followed the southbound back, but I dont get up here all that often, and it was still early enough to have good light. I did get a bonus in the Government Lead siding, though, so that was a plus. |

After the empty coal train passed, I saw this train pushed back into Government Lead with a pair of AC4400s, including 4600 in Belle paint, one of a very few of the old GEs to be repainted. Sometimes the out and back chase means the "back" part of it is a deadhead move, as it were. So it was today, but at least for the extra miles to McElhany, there was this train, so it wasnt totally a bust. |

After shooting the meet of the grain train and the H train DPU, I ran down to county road C in Goodman to get the H train coming around the curve b~ the signal. I had been parked maybe three minutes, and the gates went down. I didnt see the H train, then heard a horn behind me. I was able to get out and grab this shot of a 137 car H train with a CSX leader. He beat me to the south end of Mc Elhany, so I didnt get another shot, electing instead to stay with the southbound, which had much better lighting, especially since I was running out of daylight. |

I had gone up to McElhany, just south of Neosho, to get the first shots of the 2816, and start the chase from there, since Id have good road access and be able to get right to it. As with all things railroad, things oft go astray, and the 1050 departure time from Pittsburg was quite flexible. As a result, the 2816 didnt show til almost 1300. By then, what had been a sunny day had turned overcast, which it would remain the rest of the day. |
