This car was built by Pacific Car and Foundry Co. in March 1948 and placed in service April 1949. Those COTS stickers sure are annoying. Here's a quote from the book, Show Me Katy, by Michael A. Landis, referring to ARR 1070: Alaska Railroad caboose 1070 was a long way from home as she brings up the rear of a southbound freight on the main line through Mokane. The colorful crummy was one of three Katy leased from Alaska in the early 1980's to alleviate a shortage brought on by an increase in rail traffic. Being that the Alaska Railroad is isolated from the rest of the North American system, the cars had to be delivered via barge to Seattle. |

There was a Mars Light located above the headlight (removed by the BN), which explains the lower position of the headlight on this locomotive. And, it shows a few of the axle journal options. |
