My grandpa signed out of school at 10:05 A.M. from Malden High School. The train was symboled SSLME 21, it went through Dupo, IL at 5:25, it passed Gorham at 8:11, Simbco at 9:02, Delta, MO at 11:38, arrived at North Dexter at 13:02, left at 13:38, got to Bernie at 13:52, arrived into Malden at 14:04, departed at 14:48, arrived into Memphis, TN at 20:42, was interchanged with the NS and arrived into Jacksonville, FL on November 23 on the CSX, and got to its Tampa, FL Winter Home Base on the 24th. The train was 5,623 tons, 5,301 feet, and had 58 loads and 0 empties. They rocketed south here at about 65 mph and blew the horn 4 times at me. The entire train is in view. This was the first train of the day after it started snowing, it is pushing 2 inches of snow off the rail head with the first axle. This was really powdery snow and the trains really blew it around today. This one passed at 50 mph. School was canceled today at Malden and dad and I ventured out into the winter wonderland. We ended up getting 4 inches, a good sized snow for this area, especially when it was right at freezing when the precipitation occured. |

This is the first SD40-2F "Red Barn" that I have ever seen. Not too many get through here. It is in nearly original condition, with the nose window and numberboards. Site Contributor Jim Haguewood sanded this unit last night in Little Rock around 22:00. He said it had buttons for the independant and automatic brakes. I had to knock down a few weeds for the shot. I was really impressed with the unit. When you walk by it, it is REALLY loud. I jumped when the air reservoir discharged, lol. I was pretty close to it while I was knocking down weeds. |

From Three Mile Road at MP 145 the train stretches half way back to Dudley. You can see another train waiting behind this one in Dudley. They flashed their lights at us again as we were leaving, they said they would do the same if they saw us again. UP 6004 was the DPU. We went by Dexter B-B-Q for some ribs and then headed home with the goodies. As we were pulling into Dexter B-B-Q they were moving past One Mile Road, they tied the train down at MO Jct. and went off duty at 18:05. |

This was a very nice surprise on UP Train QNLCH 26. Not only was this a UP Train, but these are uncommon units to begin with. We were crossing the overpass over US Highway 60 in Dudley when we saw them cross the road ahead of us, so we hightailed it back to Dexter where we caught it at Two Mile Road. It appears BNSF 562 has ran a little hot at some point. It sure was great to see the ex-ATSF Power today, and GE Dash-8's look great in BNSF Paint. |

We were at Stoddard County Highway ZZ up the hill in a housing development that is under construction just west of Dexter as UP Train IHOYC 08 came by. It was supposed to have UP 1988, the MKT "Katy" Heritage Unit in the consist between these two. It obviously was not. We later found out that it was removed from the consist in Hoxie, Arkansas because it was giving a locked wheel detection. We searched every siding all the way to Arkansas and never found it! |
