SD40-2s On Parade
Title:  SD40-2s On Parade
Description:  Back in the 1960's and 1970's the F-unit was a golden oldie. Today it is diesels like the SD40-2 that holds this title. Here is another look at a trio of them on a train held by a red signal on the main track of the BNSF Wayzata sub in Long Lake, MN.

Description:  Here storming into Long Lake in the early afternoon of the second day of November '07 is this pristine BN-painted (but with "BNSF" initals above the BN logo) wide-nosed SD60 9202. Hope the hogger had a unit with enough ponies horsepower-wise, for it was a long train 9202 had in tow.

Title:  An Eclectic Mix
Description:  This and it's companion shot came out a wee bit fuzzy for some reason, maybe the lighting conditions did it. Anyay, the MP15 sandwiched between the Dash Nine and 40-2 is a bit of extra freight for the crew on this westbound general manifest racing through Long Lake, for it will be dropped off in Willmar.

That Isn't Diesel Exhaust
Title:  That Isn't Diesel Exhaust
Description:  Bringing up the hind end of the 2008 BNSF Employee Appreciation train is GE 515. The cloud of smoke did not come from her, of course. Incidentally, the radio handle for the train was not "MILW 261" but "BNSF 515." Presumably due to the push-pull nature of the trips from Minneapolis Junction to Delano and return. (My thanks to the commentator below for the correction.)

Description:  An eastbound bentonite train takes the hole in Long Lake. However, the train was just a wee bit too long for the siding. Which necessitated the westbound BNSF Employee Appreciation special having to stop so the bentonite job could pull out at the Wayzata end of the siding and clear the tracks.

First Catch Of 2009!!!!
Title:  First Catch Of 2009!!!!
Description:  Here is a westbound BNSF general freight thundering through Long Lake on a delightful unseaonally mild last day of January. For power, the crew has a quartet of GE's at their disposal. Note the traffic flowing east and west along the finally opened Highway 12 bypass which parallels the BNSF from the western border of Wayzata to the outskirts of Maple Plain. Catching this train marks the start of the 2009 railfan season for me.

In The Open Air Tunnel
Title:  In The Open Air Tunnel
Description:  Part two of my first catch for 2009. The sound wall for the Highway 12 bypass/BNSF corridor between Wayzata and Long Lake casts shadows more often than not. Making it look like the motive power pictured here is in some kind of open-air tunnel.

ES44's Waitin'
Title:  ES44's Waitin'
Description:  Stopped by red signals, the unseen crew of a westbound general freight waits patiently beneath gloomy March skies with a brace of ES44ACs for power. Since the highway 12 bypass (i.e. "new 12") is now open, I had to hang back by the fence at an emergency access gate to get this shot in a gap between traffic passing east to west. While doing so, the Doobie Brothers tune "Long Train Runnin'" was chugging along on my MP3 player. Get down, man.
