Here is a westbound BNSF general freight thundering through Long Lake on a delightful unseaonally mild last day of January. For power, the crew has a quartet of GE's at their disposal. Note the traffic flowing east and west along the finally opened Highway 12 bypass which parallels the BNSF from the western border of Wayzata to the outskirts of Maple Plain. Catching this train marks the start of the 2009 railfan season for me. |

Stopped by red signals, the unseen crew of a westbound general freight waits patiently beneath gloomy March skies with a brace of ES44ACs for power. Since the highway 12 bypass (i.e. "new 12") is now open, I had to hang back by the fence at an emergency access gate to get this shot in a gap between traffic passing east to west. While doing so, the Doobie Brothers tune "Long Train Runnin'" was chugging along on my MP3 player. Get down, man. |
