Description:  The spot on the observation deck of the "Port Arthur" would have been the place to be. I was standing on the stair platform than runs from the Common Street overpass down to where Union Station used to be in Shreveport. I wonder if the passengers on the train even realized that they were passing by the platforms of Shreveport's long gone Union Station?

Description:  KCS 4009 has retained its gray paint well and is one of the more striking (or at least as much as a gray SD70ACe can be "striking") gray SD70ACe's. The signal design of the signal to the left is unique in Shreveport, as all the other signals in town use a Mopac style "hooded" design. The swing bridge is still operation, last opened to allow the gambling riverboats to pass to the north to dock. The boats are permanently moored and do not sail, so it has been a while since the bridge has been opened.

Description:  The bridge will swing open, as it was last opened for the Shreveport riverboats that are moored north of the bridge. The bridge is opened by hand. The operator walks out on the small wooden "plank" and up the stairs (notice there are NO rails on the stairs) to the top platform where the operator cranks are located.

Description:  On a cold dreary day (the only time you can avoid backlighting on the north side of the bridge), a view of the pivot span of the northernmost Red River Swing Bridge in Shreveport. A true rarity, in that the river has moved so one can walk right up to the pivot span (which ordinarily would be in the middle of the river).

Description:  In the middle of Shreveport along Interstate 49, there is a short stretch of KCS double track that gives me the illusion of being in a rural, mountain foothills area. In reality, the busy interstate is on the right and a somewhat rough residential neighborhood is to the photographer's left. "New meets old" as four gray KCS units pass by a freight led by two Retro Belles. The freight has just negotiated the sharp S curve.

Description:  Out of service KCS railroad bridge just north of downtown Shreveport. One of only 2 surviving Waddell "A" truss bridges in the US, the Linn Creek Bridge in Missouri being the other. Originally built in 1890 over the Arkansas River in Oklahoma then moved to Cross Bayou adjacent to downtown Shreveport in 1926. Now closed to all traffic.

Description:  Shreveport's triple track line through downtown was quiet after a day of gloomy winter weather. However, I caught this train shortly before 11:30 a.m. while the snow was still on the tracks. Within an hour or so, melt would take its toll and this short and unusual Shreveport photographic opportunity would be gone.
